Syracuse Fiber Recycling was founded by our father, Roger R. Elston.
In August of 2012 we returned to a family operated business.
We believe this is what our dad wanted.
Our history with the dairy industry stems from the 1980's when we operated a dairy farm in northwest Ohio. Life changes and business associates led Roger to Syracuse where he worked to develop a beneficial use for paper-mill waste sludge. Calling on his dairy background, he developed the process of manufacturing dairy bedding from the short fiber sludge while reducing the carbon footprint of paper-mills.
Sharon (Elston) Thompson has been involved in the business since 2005. She is an onsite managing owner and works on the production floor. She also works in the office handling sales and customer service.
Melanie Elston has been involved in the business since 2015. She is an onsite managing owner and her role is administrative manager responsible for scheduling, customer service, and accounting. She is currently pursuing her Bachelors Degree in social sciences.
Phil Elston became involved with the company in 2014 as a managing owner. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan. Phil has 25 years of experience in manufacturing operations.
Randy Cornish is production manager for the company. He has worked with the company since 1999 in various production roles.
Roger W. Elston grew up in the business and worked for the company for nine years while in high school and while completing his Associate Degree in Applied Science from OCC. His current role is a participating member of the company.
